  5. Former Employee, less than ane twelvemonth

    Pros

The opportunity to work with and positively affect youth. Mostly consequent schedule. You don't have to punch a clock and there are excellent medical/dental/vision/health plans available essentially costless through Providence and other partners. Some of your colleagues are some of the most intelligent, kind, and caring people you lot volition ever meet. Volunteers are oft available and can be helpful as staff support.

    Cons

They don't invest in their employees whatsoever. As a full-time, non-exempt employee, I had to negotiate up to making 11.05 p/h. Part time employees become paid minimum wage. Raises have to be begged for and are normally met with "information technology's not in the budget" or, as mine was, "because we paid you more than your original offer, you will have to wait until next year's review". The "powers at exist" do not experience the need to properly compensate well-educated employees, and the direct supervisors exercise non advocate for their employees. The people doing the difficult piece of work are belittled, passed over, and reported to HR for self-advocacy, while laziness and fraudulent behavior is rewarded and encouraged. There is a culture of mistrust and dishonesty from the board and CEO all the way downward the ladder. They set up unrealistic goals for employees with no support from management. In-house and upper level direction only appear when special events occur and even the youth are painfully aware of this.

  6. Onetime Employee, more than than 3 years

    Pros

You get to work with kids, hopefully shaping their lives for the better.

    Cons

Nigh too many to count. The biggest cons of working for the BGCA of Portland is that they completely destruct your dreams of helping kids past lowering salaries for their function time and total time employees while raising the salaries of the CEOs and other executives. I worked for three dissimilar BCGA centers, as well as 2 after school elementary schools, and the turnover of qualified people cycling through the clubs was completely disheartening and made the mission and the work ineffectual. The management is completely awful. The 2 best directors I worked with in my 3 years left considering of dissatisfaction with the administration. AVOID THIS PLACE IF You lot CAN, There ARE BETTER PROGRAMS!!
